Lajee Music Institute Summer Camp
The Lajee Music Institute successfully concluded its third annual Music Summer Camp, welcoming 45 participants, including current instrumental students, and members of the choir. Building on previous years’ experiences, the camp provided a rich program focused on developing musical knowledge, performance skills, creativity, and self-expression in a supportive learning environment.
Participants explored musical foundations through interactive sessions on musical notation, scales, rhythms, and different families of musical instruments. They also learned about Palestinian musical heritage through traditional songs and their cultural and historical significance.
The program included hands-on experiences such as violin and cello demonstrations, group instrumental rehearsals, and individual and collective qanun lessons. Choir members developed their vocal skills while strengthening teamwork, discipline, and musical listening abilities.
Creativity was encouraged through music games, collaborative activities, and songwriting workshops, where older participants created their own lyrics and melodies inspired by Palestinian and Arabic music.
The camp also included educational visits and cultural experiences, including a visit to the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music, a meeting with violinist and music educator Carol Ibrahim, and a visit to instrument maker Aref Al-Sayed to learn about the craftsmanship behind traditional instruments, particularly the qanun.
