The Lejee Center’s Women’s Unit toured the village of Al-Walajah
To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Lejee Center’s Women’s Unit toured the village of Al-Walajah on Saturday 5th March. Al-Walajah is one of the many villages threatened by Israeli settlers. Only 3000 out of the original 22000 strong population remain; the rest have been forcibly displaced by the Zionist Occupation Army through demolition of homes, confiscation of land and restriction the local population’s ability to survive.

This tour included meeting Mr. Omar Hajajleh, whose house has been completely isolated from the rest of the village by the apartheid wall. He has faced constant abuse and persecution at the hands of the Zionist Occupation because of his refusal to leave his home. The group also visited the oldest olive tree in the world, discussing its history and features with local experts. They also visited the Rwaisat Wood Recycling Centre where local women explained how it took three years for the center to be the success that it is today, the women starting with limited funds and the simplest of equipment.
