On Palestinian Prisoners Day: Lajee Center Launches QR Code Campaign to Document the Stories of Aida Camp’s Prisoners

The Media and Arts Unit at Lajee Center in Aida Refugee Camp launched an innovative street campaign on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners Day, aiming to revive the prisoners’ cause and raise public awareness about their experiences and ongoing suffering inside Israeli prisons.

The campaign involved placing QR code stickers across the camp’s streets and walls, with each code linking to a digital profile of a prisoner from Aida Camp. These profiles include the prisoner’s name, photo, sentence, arrest circumstances, and personal writings—reviving the human story of each detainee through modern digital tools.

Currently, 35 prisoners from Aida Camp are held in Israeli prisons. Among them are Nasser Abu Srour and Mahmoud Abu Srour, both serving life sentences and imprisoned since 1993. All prisoners face harsh humanitarian conditions and systematic violations, much like thousands of other Palestinians held in Israeli detention.

This campaign emerged as a grassroots documentation initiative in response to the escalating Israeli violations against prisoners. It aims to strengthen collective memory of their struggle, especially in the face of efforts to erase their identities and cause.

The campaign received wide engagement from residents of the camp—particularly children—who eagerly scanned the QR codes to read the stories, helping instill greater awareness of the prisoners’ cause among the younger generation.
