Rebel Circus School Returns to Spain with Expanded Exchange – 2024
In 2024, the Rebel Circus School at Lajee Center deepened its international engagement with a renewed cultural exchange in Spain, building on the momentum of the previous year’s success. This time, 13 students from the school took part in a multi-phase program that combined artistic development, mentorship, and international performance.
As part of the preparation, two advanced students from the group departed a month early to participate in an extended training period in Madrid. During this time, they received intensive instruction, supported their trainer Mohammad Rumi in leading workshops, and took part in four public circus performances across the city. These performances blended technical skill with expressive storytelling, offering Spanish audiences a glimpse into the lived experiences of Palestinian youth.
A few weeks later, Lajee Center’s director, Mohammad Al-Azza, his assistant, and ten additional students aged 9 to 15 joined the group for a comprehensive three-week exchange. The first two weeks took place in Madrid, where students engaged in collaborative training sessions with Spanish circus peers and participated in cultural exploration activities.
The final week brought the group to Murcia, a southern coastal region, where they connected with local circus organizations and enjoyed time by the sea—offering moments of joy and relaxation for students visiting Europe for the first time.
The journey concluded with a grand closing performance at the Pallasos en Rebeldía Circus School, featuring both Palestinian and Spanish students. The show symbolically captured the struggles and hopes of Palestinian youth through circus movement, strength, and balance—an artistic testimony to resilience and solidarity.
