The Second Summer Music Camp at Lajee Center: Four Days of Creativity, Music, and Collective Experience

In an atmosphere full of creativity and joy, the Music Unit at Lajee Center organized the Second Summer Music Camp, with the participation of 43 children aged 5 to 17. The program spanned four consecutive days that blended artistic education, cultural activities, and recreational experiences.

Developing Musical Skills

From the very first day, the camp focused on enhancing the participants’ musical and artistic abilities through a comprehensive set of workshops. Children learned how to release emotions through music, engaged in group training in collective performance and choir singing, practiced various rhythms, and received a simplified introduction to Arabic musical modes (maqamat).

These workshops were not just theoretical lessons but practical experiences that boosted self-confidence, teamwork, and helped refine children’s talents while expanding their artistic horizons.

Specialized Musical Expertise

The participants benefited from the expertise of a specialized team of music trainers and choir instructors. A highlight was a special session with Malaak Banoura, professor of qanun and ensemble performance, who introduced the children to the traditional Arabic takht and the principles of collective performance. This variety of expertise enriched the camp and exposed children to diverse musical approaches.

Culture and Recreation

The camp was not limited to music; it also included cultural and recreational activities. There were ice-breaking games to encourage bonding between participants and a sports corner to keep them physically active. This blend of art and play made the camp a holistic space that nurtured mind, body, and spirit.

Final Performance

The last day culminated in a musical performance before families, where children showcased solo and group performances in both singing and playing instruments. The event reflected the skills and confidence the participants had gained, as well as their ability to work collectively. The performance was not just entertainment but a clear message about the camp’s impact in empowering children to express themselves through art.

Trip to Battir

The camp concluded with a recreational trip to Battir Resort, where children spent quality time together, reinforcing the friendships and bonds they had built throughout the camp.

Camp’s Message

The Music Unit at Lajee Center affirmed that the goal of the camp was to strengthen children’s musical and artistic abilities, nurture their hidden talents, and give them opportunities for self-expression and group interaction in a safe and enjoyable educational environment. The camp also aimed to instill values of teamwork, self-confidence, and pride in Palestinian cultural identity through music and the arts.

Through initiatives like this, Lajee Center continues its efforts to create creative spaces for children and youth, making art and music powerful tools for building confident personalities capable of expressing themselves despite daily challenges.
