Activities at the Yassar Arafat Summer Camp, 2022

The programming for the Yasser Arafat Summer Camp began on July 16th for the fourth year and already on the first day there were more than 70 participating boys and girls. The first day included activities that broke barriers between participants and shared information about Yasser Arafat. The activities continued to the second day, where the staff and volunteers facilitated fun water games for the children. The day also included educational activities which related to the words, career, and life of Yasser Arafat and some of the leading figures of Palestinian nationalism and the production of several nationalist artworks whose meanings are conveyed using different drawings, colors, and designs.

The third day of the summer camp included lots of nationalist cultural activities to increase awareness among the younger generation about national issues specific to Palestine. The fourth day included additional traditional cultural activities as well as athletic activities and games and aquatic competitions.

Touching briefly on the fifth day, it featured activities pertaining to environmentalism as well as singing.

Among the activities of the Yasser Arafat summer camp was a visit to the Yasser Arafat Museum to learn about the course of his life and to raise the level of national awareness in the children about indigenous issues and reinforce all that was presented and explained in the previous days. This day concluded with a visit to the Muchmas amusement, a time filled with fun and joy.

The seventh and eighth days included more educational and artistic activities, drawing, and games. The freed prisoner Marwan Faraja was also hosted. He spoke about the experience of his previous captivity and gave advice to raise a sound national awareness among the lions and flowers of the summer camp. The minister of the national office Mr. ‘Issa Qaraqe’ was also received.

On the last day, the campers welcomed to the Lajee Center the staff and volunteers responsible for the summer camp programming at the Yasser Arafat Foundation. The children made some educational cultural presentations, showing off many handmade crafts with symbols related to the Palestinian cause. For the conclusion of the summer camp, a leisure trip was organized to the Battir tourist resort, where the atmosphere among the children was full of joy, happiness, and adventure.
